Web Specialist | University of Washington Dept of Global Health

The University of Washington Department of Global Health has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Web Computing Specialist. We are seeking a full-time team member. Please do not contact with freelance or consulting offers.

The individual in this position will:

Develop and manage web sites and web-based information

  • Maintain and improve departmental and program web sites
  • Serve as primary administrator for all department and center sites that are not being actively tended by other staff
  • Monitor and improve how departmental information is presented on sites outside the department and on the larger web and in search engines
  • Contribute to the planning, development, and administration of departmental databases

Offer web and technology support to programs, centers, and research groups

  • Provide assistance and consultation to faculty and staff about websites and technology
  • Train staff and faculty to manage their own information on the web
  • Provide support for faculty websites and develop best practices and documentation for faculty, staff, and centers in maintaining websites
  • Support learning technology and distance learning, including evaluating available technologies and developing strategies for best use
  • Manage regular and distance course web infrastructure
    Consult with faculty on the appropriate use of technology for online courses
  • Assist in converting course materials from traditional formats to online formats
  • Provide support and training for faculty and staff using educational technology

Participate in departmental, school and university-level technology groups and meetings

Requirements:
Bachelor's in Computer Science or related degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, plus two to three years of experience developing websites and databases, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL, and responsive design for mobile browsers

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience with web content management systems, preferably Drupal and Wordpress
  • Experience with audio and video formats for the web (podcasting, video files)
  • Knowledge of issues related to section 503 compliance for web accessibility
  • Ability to train non-technical people in content management.

Desired:

  • Experience with modern JavaScript libraries, particularly JQuery and Bootstrap
  • Experience administering Unix-based systems and web server software
  • Experience with University of Washington computing environment
  • Experience with hardware and software-based conferencing systems (e.g. Adobe Connect, Polycom, Skype)
  • Experience with learning management systems, particularly Instructure Canvas
  • Knowledge of issues related to online teaching and course management
  • Experience with Tegrity or other lecture capture software.
